There are 2 Go federations in Russia. It is common
practice in Russia. There are two or more Federations
in every sport in Russia. Even Japan had its
difficulties after the creation of the second
federation Kansai-Kiin, however, nobody is questioning
its usefulness now.

Go Federation, whose president is Igor Grishin, is
developing Go in Russia from a standpoint of openness
and accessibility. We stand for attracting new
amateurs into Go. Go Federation’s position is that in
order to develop Go it is necessary not only to
support the professionals, but also to assist the
newcomers in getting involved in the game and becoming
full-fledged members of the Go community.

Go federation encompasses over 10 regions in Russia,
in particular, one of its partners is U-de center in
Togliatti, where over 400 kids are studying Ushu and
Go.

Go Federation, whose president is Igor Grishin, is the
official organization developing Go in Russia,
recognized by the Russian government.

Go Federation has received a letter of appreciation
from the Japanese ambassador to Russia for its
contributions to the development of Go in Russia.

Igor Grishin is a well-known youth Go coach, who
developed hundreds of students, laureate of the
Russian out-of-classroom pedagogue of the year
contest. Igor’s best students took part in youth world
championships. The Go Federation team regularly takes
part the European youth championships. Igor Grishin is
the author of multiple Go articles, the book “Art of
thinking and winning. Go game for beginners” (10000

Go Federation runs regular internet tournaments on the
KGS server. The next tournament begins January 14,
2006. Hurry to register and play the strongest players
from Russia and the rest of the world.

Many members of the Go Federation have certificates
from varied Go Associations (such as Nihon Kiin,
Chinese Weiqi Association, and Hankuk Kiwon)

The other Federation - RFG - also functions in Russia.
You can see the results of its work in Russian at
go.aspec.ru or in English at russia.european-go.org

Go Federation’s main distinctions are:
1. Go Federation’s priorities include not just the
competitive accomplishments, but also amateur,
professional and social results. It is important that
go works for the society, and not just the other way
around. In this sense, Go Federation shares European
values and is close to the European federations.

2. Go Federation has developed a Kyu-Dan system.

3. Go Federation is creating a pro league

4. Go Federation hosts the Russian championship, which
has a world-unique system of choosing the finalists.

5. Go Federation actively promotes youth Go.

Go Federation, whose president is Igor Grishin, is
ready to cooperate with the European Go Federation and
support it in accomplishing varying Go development
initiatives in Russia as well as in Europe.

Go Federation actively works with the Russian
government.

Go Federation cooperates with all Go organizations in
Russia.

Among Go Federation’s immediate plans is hosting
several international tournaments, as well as
practicing visits to China and other countries.

We are not starting a war, which we are persistently
being pulled into, we just announce our existence and
willingness to work for the good of the development of
Go in Russia and the rest of the world.

For example: Aikido federations.
There are: FAR, FAAR, EAFA, and, possibly, others i forget to mention.
I was not involved to any other sports/martial arts, so can't give more examples.

I think it's common for martial arts in Russia. Karate, aikido, wushu, i. e. relatively "modern" (at least in Russia) sports has several competiting federations. Of course, for "large" sports (football, basketball, hockey, etc.) there is one federation, because they were founded in USSR and has strong lobby in government and big moneys are involved.
